Today we’re going to have a look at the swing of David Graham. David is the epitome of overcoming adversity (for more on that see the interview embedded below), coming from virtually nowhere to win 2 major Championships, his life borders on a Horatio Alger story. Mr. Graham was the Captain of the inaugural President’s Cup in which our good friend Bradley Hughes played.Here’s how Bradley described him to me:I thought he would be a cool story, 18 greens at Merion, PGA & US open winner.I played with him a few times…..He is the only guy I have ever played with who was long but then had an extra gear on a par 5 or a hole that needed it… would just rip it out there an extra 20…. precision player, great chipper and bunker player, streaky hot putterHe was captain when I played Pres Cup….not talked about much thought he would be a good one to add one day.He grew up in Melbourne…actually played golf left handed until he was 16 and the pro where he got a job at told him to switch right handed. practiced till hands bled. Left home to take the job as he Dad said he would never talk to him again if he took up golf (wanted him to get a real job)….so he left and NEVER spoke to his Dad again. Tough as nails….comes across as a bit hard to many but couldn’t have been nicer to me Here’s our little video tribute:For those not familiar with David’s story, here’s an old Golf Digest interview:David Interview 3(function() { var scribd = document.createElement(“script”); scribd.type = “text/javascript”; scribd.async = true; scribd.src = “http://www.scribd.com/javascripts/embed_code/inject.js”; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(“script”)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(scribd, s); })();
